I am definitely not a runner. But I do run. And I have slowly come to enjoy it. Maybe one day I might love it. But I’m not there yet. I find it too hard and too tempting not to go out for a run to believe that I love it. But when I’m running it does, sometimes, feel great.
Why do I run? Why does anyone run?
- Running is natural. We were designed to do it. Tapping back into our evolutionary purpose feels comfortable and somehow ‘right’.
- Running means I can eat pretty much what I like and drink beer.
- Running provides an easy way to set yourself challenges and goals. And then achieving them can vary anywhere from satisfaction, to pride, to feeling like you can now do anything in the world.
- Running gives me the highest quality time with myself. I can think through anything which is bothering me quitely and without being interrupted. I’m surprised I’ve never been run over.
- Running can make you high. The occasional rush during a good run, produced by a cocktail of endorphins, adrenaline, dopamine, is really quite enjoyable!
